Has American Idol Run It's Course? PDF Print E-mail
by Bizu Yaregal

Forgive me if I'm a little blunt but isn't American Idol past it's sell by date now? I'm speaking as an avid fan here. I've followed each series with great interest but I find myself now becoming more of a fan of the 'dramatics' of the show rather than the 'contestants'.

Let's take a look at the current crop of contestants, American Idol is meant to be finding THE best undiscovered singers in America yet truth be spoken, with the exception of Adam Lambert, their all sub standard, I would even say that the last series of X Factor (The UK's version of idol) beats this years crop hands down.

Well you may ask me why I and millions of others still watch the show... I don't particularly take note of the contestants’ performances this season (except Adam Lambert) but instead prefer to watch the banter between the judges and Ryan (IMO they're the stars of the show). There's always something controversial said by one or the other that makes for good TV and a good 'entertainment' show but in terms of the talent it provides, it's pretty dismal.

Even Adam... Adam is the favorite, the rocker who seems to adapt perfectly to each different genre has been faced with. He's definitely got that extra spark IMO but still how far will that take him? It seems that even if you win 'American Idol', even after those millions of viewers voted, there is NO guarantee that you'll make it as the worldwide superstar.. the 'idol status' the show projects to you. In fact, as far as I know Kelly Clarkson is the only Idol winner who has become internationally successful and has a huge worldwide fan base including here in The UK.

So the question is.. How far can American Idol go? I definitely think that it's best American Idol goes on a long indefinite break after this series. This show was created as a talent show but it seems that the talent isn't in abundance as it should be and is clearly lacking.. It's all the factors BUT the singers who are keeping the show intact and pretty soon even that's going to grow stale.  The clock is ticking.
