With National Day of Love approaching in a week, the sweet thought of Cupid's arrow piercing our hearts with a romantic surprise remains an unlikely possibility. Hate to break it to the single ones out there, but if you still haven't found a significant other to spend the big day with, the next seven days probably won't bring any new discoveries. In Spanish there is a saying that goes “La intención es lo que cuenta”- Intention is what counts. No matter what you give or how you celebrate this coming Valentine’s Day, keep that in mind. If you’re worried about what to give or where to take your date, just think of a way of making it a day of enjoying each other’s company, no matter what you do. Sometimes the little things you do to please others are the ones that will be most appreciated. Valentine´s day will be what you make of it. You can choose to disregard it and make it a day like any other. You can do as marketing tells you to and spend a lot of money on a gift. Or you can choose to celebrate in your own unique way. In the United States Valentine´s day seems to be a celebration of romantic love. No so much in other places. In Mexico for example, February 14th is called the Day of love and friendship. So if you don´t have a significant other to celebrate a romantic evening, you can celebrate friendship. Go out and have some fun with your dearest friends. Or why not make it a celebration of family love? That’s what I’m doing this year. Write a comment |

In a perfect world, love would be more than skin deep. It would transcend language barriers, cultural norms, and societal standards. This world is within our reach. But we have yet to reach a point where a Hispanic woman and an Asian man can publicly go on a date without receiving a second glance, or at least avoid an internal double-take, by onlookers.

Each person, each culture, has their own interpretation of love and chooses different words to express it. Today we present you with a translation of a song by Jose Alfredo Jimenez, a song writer and singer considered a classic when it comes to Mariachi music, one of the traditional musical genres in Mexico. This song can often be heard during a serenate, a romantic custom that takes place throughout the country. Solamente la mano de Dios podrá separarnos Only the hand of god can separate us nuestro amor es mas grande Our love is greater que todas las cosas del mundo Than everything else in the world yo se bien que nacimos los dos I know well that we were both born para siempre adorarnos To always adore each other nuestro amor es lo mismo que el mar Out love is the same as the sea cristalino y profundo Cristal clear and pure Solamente la mano de Dios podrá castigarnos Only the hand of god can punish us las demas opiniones mi cielo The rest of opinions my sky (honey) me salen sobrando I don’t care about Yo seré para ti nada más I will be only for you te lo digo llorando I say it crying cuando tu me trajiste tu amor Copyright © 2008 Diaday.com All rights reserved Write a comment |
